$500.00

Product Description

Mokidup Bilya

Over the last couple of years we have had a major focus on water on the farm, installing new tanks, solar pumps and cleaning existing dams.  This year our focus is on restoring the waterways so that not only the human life benefits but the ecological health of the system.

Thanks to the Nature Conservation Margaret River Landowner Stewardship Program, we have received help and support in developing a plan for planting the section of the Mokidup catchment that flows past Fair Harvest. Together we have chosen a site and created a plan for fencing, weed management, planting and plant protection.

As a part of our education wing we would like to open this project to the public. We have set a week in May to spend a committed week of learning about the plants, animals and health of the creek as well as planting and becoming actively involved.

This course will cover a broad range of subjects involved in the careful rehabilitation of this special area including

Indigenous stories and land use by Wadandi Custodians,  Creek line species and rehabilitation with Peta Lierich from Nature Conservation Margaret River,  Reading the land with Ian Hackett,  Riparian Zone planting and care with Rod Hughes from our PDC teacher team,Native plant propagation with Rod Cary from Geographe Community Landcare Nursery,  and a special day on Wildlife Species and Habitat Creation in riparian zones with Simon Cherriman.  We will also look at weed management and native plant protection.

“You started perhaps believing that permaculture was some sort of gardening.  And perhaps you also believed that the world’s problems were too numerous and complex to solve.  By now, hopefully you know that isn’t the case…. you have the power to change things…. So hold on to the ideas, examine them in depth over time….

Go and make the world a better place, be creative, enjoy and take responsibility for every day of your life.” Rowe Morrow
