Straw Bale Wall Preparation

Our straw has arrived to build the wall with and it was such a pleasure to meet and chat to the farmers who grew it. I’ve often heard that building with straw down here is not  appropriate  due to having to transport the straw from the wheat belt but these guys are local. They grow grain rye (and we can buy that from them to) and then bale up the straw into good quality building (or garden) bales.

We’ve also been marking out the wall, pouring footings, cutting lengths of bamboo and collecting other materials we’ll be using.   Of course it’s not just any ol garden wall, our wall will have seats built in and organic shapes and curves (which straw bales lend them selves to beautifully).

All a great learning process and a whole new space will end up being defined by it.
